A&T is enabling Children's National Medical Center (CNMC) to partner with community pediatric practitioners and highly rated eClinical Works, to implement an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) initiative. An integrated EMR solution will allow physician practices to immediately access patient records for improved care management, foster electronic communication between them and specialty providers, and securely send consult notes and clinical data back and forth. In addition, with an EMR the documentation process is simple, patient histories do not have to be taken multiple times, and the patient's visit is streamlined. Overall physician practices will be able to deliver better continuity and coordination of patient care, while interconnecting the healthcare of children around the region. This novel and ambitious project will bring improved quality and patient safety, and increased access to services to all children in our region. The Children's IQ Network officially launched in August 2008. The first practice joined the Network and was "live" in November 2008. By July 2009, CNMC, six community-based pediatric practices, the CNMC's Goldberg Primary Care Center and Clinics, Children's Pediatric and Associates Practices, 172 school nurse suites, immunization registries from DC, Maryland and Virginia, LabCorp and Quest were connected to a remote hosted hub and continuity of care record. Beyond that date, regional community practices were rapidly recruited into the Children's IQ Network. The planned data hub housing the continuity of care record, will be available to support real time clinical care, quality initiatives, research and serve as a resource for performance projects.
