Northrop Grumman successfully designed, developed, and implemented the HITECH NLR necessary for the government to allocate billions of dollars of incentive payments to Medicare and Medicaid professionals, hospitals, and other organizations to “meaningfully use” electronic health records (EHRs). Expanded use of EHRs is expected to both decrease the cost of care and increase the quality of care. NLR is a significant opportunity to meaningfully reform our nation’s healthcare system and has enabled CMS to register participants, accept meaningful use attestation and measures, and calculate and track payments, which are the core activities in administering the HITECH incentive payment program. This program expects to process millions of transactions to provide correct and accurate payments to an estimated 500,000 eligible professionals, 1,400 institutions (e.g., hospitals), and 56 state agencies with Medicaid administrative oversight who will apply for incentive payments.
